India are all geared up to take on Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 final in Dubai with two teams determined to conclude the tournament with the winners trophy.
The death overs should make for an exciting contest with both those sides having depended amply on spin bowling all through the tournament. India, meanwhile, are strong favourites going into the title clash owing to their better overall balance and recent head-to-head record against Sri Lanka.
India and Sri Lanka Both Rely on Spin
For me, the biggest feature of this tournament has been spin bowling on those slow Dubai pitches. The spinners of India have been extremely potent, with their bowlers capturing 26 wickets in total-the most by any side at the tournament.
Sri Lanka followed closely with 25, reinforcing the significance of spin in the final.
India has also appeared a more cohesive unit. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma opened for them with captaincy from the front while their bowling attack was relentless against the batters.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have struggled with bat in hand to keep up the momentum. The middle and lower order have had to keep coming back to rescue the team whenever they lose their way early.
Sri Lanka’s Batting Has Faced Several Challenges
Sri Lanka have had lots of tough situations when needing to bat in the tournament.
They collapsed to 33 for 4 against Pakistan in the semi-final, before Harshitha Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari steadied things.
They were earlier 44 for 5 against Bangladesh and were also down at one stage to 45 for 5 during the league stage match against Indonesia.
In recent matches Harshitha Samarawickrama has come up trumps time and again while Nilakshika Silva too delivered some telling performances.
Yet, a significantly better batting display awaits Sri Lanka against India. Chamari Athapaththu has managed just 63 runs in four innings, and Imesha Dulani chipped in with 64 runs from four matches.
In excellent condition before leaving, this time the Indian bowling attack would prove even worse for life as fast bowler Nandani Sharma was also doing great in the tournament.
India Hold the Recent Advantage
This is yet another reason for India to strive for the final confidently – their recent T20I record against Sri Lanka.
Indian T20I series against Sri Lanka in December 2025 (India won all five matches) In total, they have taken 09 wins from the last 10 T20Is against Sri Lanka.
The only victory for them in that run was of course coming in an ICC tournament final, and Sri Lanka can take confidence from that.
Sri Lanka chased down 166 set by India in the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup final to win it with eight wickets remaining in Dambulla.
That previous title success will serve as a reminder to Sri Lanka that what has happened in the past and how teams have fared in tournaments before they reach the final can mean nothing when a match begins.
Shafali Verma Could Be India’s Key Batter
Shafali Verma will be looking to provide that explosive start for India once again.
In the tournament, the opener has 168 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 169.69. She has already made a 64 in both innings and constantly puts opposition bowlers under pressure at the top of order.
Shafali can give India another fast start and that will put Sri Lanka spin attack under a huge amount of pressure.
Perhaps most importantly, Smriti Mandhana will be a key figure in the Indian batting order too if the side is to construct an opening foundation.

Her batting has not been up to her high standards, but she has performed with the ball. Athapaththu is one of the leading wicket-takers in the tournament, having taken 11 wickets.
In four innings, she has scored 30 runs or more on one occasion; against UAE.
Sri Lanka would be in with a fighting chance if Athapaththu was to produce another performance with the bat. This value in contributing in both departments, particularly suits the final conditions that are expected to favour bowlers.

For the tournament, Sri Lanka have rotated their squad far more than India, fielding 14 out of 17 from their squad.
In the semi-final against Pakistan, Vishmi Gunaratne and Chethana Vimukthi were in turn rested to allow Hasini Perera and Mithali Ayodhya to return.
And that pairing could once again be favourite for the final.

Dubai Pitch Report and Weather Conditions
Matches have tended to be low-scoring because of the conditions in Dubai.
