Sachin Tendulkar Centuries: 100 International Hundreds, IPL Century and Career Records

Sachin Tendulkar Centuries

Sachin Tendulkar centuries are held as perhaps the biggest record in cricket history. The iconic Indian cricketer retired from international cricket with 100 hundreds – 51 in Test matches and 49 in ODIs. On March 16, 2012, he achieved the incredible feat of being the first person to score a century in international cricket – and scored his 114 against Bangladesh at Mirpur.

He also raised his tally of international and IPL hundreds to 101 with a century in the Indian Premier League. The only IPL century he scored was in 2011 as his MI side took on the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th International Century

Arguably the best of all Sachin Tendulkar centuries, or at least equally one of them was his hundredth international hundred.

Sachin Tendulkar had 99 international centuries before the start of 2011 World Cup. He had a heavy scoring tournament but could not complete the milestone. It took until 2012 for him to reach that milestone.

On 16 March 2012, Tendulkar scored 114 against Bangladesh in an Asia Cup match at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. That innings brought him to exactly 100 international hundreds – 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs.

This was a special landmark too, as no other men’s international cricketer had ever scored 100 hundred in Test and ODI cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Most Important Century Records

Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 hundreds were not just a random pile of hundreds; Many were seminal landmarks in the annals of history.

First Test Century – 119*

His first international century was scored at Old Trafford against England in 1990. Simmons was just 17 and provisionally finished with an unbeaten 119 in the second innings.

First ODI Century – 110

Tendulkar’s first ODI century came in September 1994 against Australia in Colombo. He made 110 at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

Most Famous – First ODI Double Century 200*

Tendulkar was the first male cricketer to make a double century in an ODI (against South Africa on 24 February 2010). That 200 not out came against South Africa in Gwalior.

50th Test Century

One of the most successful Test cricketers, Tendulkar was the first batter to score 50 Test centuries. He ended his Test career with 51 hundreds — which is still the most ever in the format.

100th International Century

He did make a final hundred at the international level: on March 16, 2012 against Bangladesh in Mirpur scoring an iconic 114. Coming into this game it was his 49 ODI hundreds and 100 overall international hundreds.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Centuries by Format

To understand the Sachin Tendulkar centuries records as a whole is simple.

Because 51 Test centuries + 49 ODI centuries + 0 T20I centuries is exactly =100 international centuries

In one IPL-specific context, he added one IPL century to his tally, making it 101 at the international plus IPL level. Since the IPL hundred was made in a domestic franchise competition, it is not considered part of his official international tally.

Why Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 Centuries Are Special

There is more to the number 100, Sachin Tendulkar’s century record. However, his international career spanned more than 20 years and he scored hundreds against virtually every major bowling attack of his generation.

Ten 50 and Fifty One Test hundreds indicate an unprecedented degree of consistency in the longest format, while 49 ODI hundreds show how well he made himself suited to limited-overs circles. He was also the first player to score an ODI double century in his career and ended up as the highest run-scorer ever in Test cricket and ODI cricket.

After all, while we know that Virat Kohli had eclipsed Tendulkar in ODIs centuries, these combined 100 international centuries from Tendulkar still stands as the one of most recognizable statistical mountain ranges for cricketing achievements.
