India vs Afghanistan Head to Head: Records, Stats & Results

India vs Afghanistan Head to Head

The India vs Afghanistan head to head in all formats of international cricket has been very good towards the men in blue. Afghanistan have had their moments over the years whenever they face one on one against India since the two teams first met, including a tied ODI in the 2018 Asia Cup and indeed, a tied T20I in 2024 – but still no official ‘W’ recorded.

But the reason for a more intriguing rivalry in the past few years is that Afghanistan have morphed into one of the stronger limited-overs teams – largely on the back of an impressive spin bowling attack and potent batting. But against Afghanistan, India has an immaculate unbeaten record.

Most recently in 2026, India and Afghanistan contested one Test, a three-match ODI series and three games in the T20I format respectively. India went on to win the Test, whitewash South Africa 3-0 in the ODIs and complete the T20I series with a similar 3-0 triumph.

Why India vs Afghanistan Has Become an Interesting Rivalry

India leads the head-to-head but it has been a closer rivalry with Afghanistan staking their claim among the big limited overs teams.

The rise of Afghanistan has been most pronounced in T20 cricket with Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz among the established international stars making Afghanistan a solid white-ball team.

India, on the other hand, has generally had more depth and experience in all formats.

The encounters have gotten progressively engaging given the huge distinction between India’s batting profundity and Afghanistan’s turn bowling.

Despite yet to win an International match against India, the 2018 ODI tie and the 2024 T20I tie showed that Afghanistan can put India in tough positions.
